Family Friday: Lufthansa’s New Family-Friendly Check-In

If there’s anything more challenging than a flight with your young kids, it’s trying to keep them entertained at the airport. On my last trip, I spent two hours chasing my twins around New York’s Delta terminal and had to convince a worker at Starbucks that Sebastian hadn’t intentionally stolen a bag of coffee (he knew exactly what he was doing). Enter Lufthansa. The airline recently launched a series of new family offerings at its Munich and Frankfurt airports, which include child-friendly check in areas with stations for kids. When you’re at the counter, your little ones can climb up a step ladder to feel part of the procedure (they’ll even get a “Best Friend Boarding Pass” for their favorite stuffed animal). You’ll also receive a Family Pilot brochure with vouchers and information about airport play areas, pharmacies, observation decks, and the best restaurants for kids. FYI, if you travel Lufthansa frequently, make sure to enroll your child in the Jet Friends frequent flier program—he’ll get instant points and access to a community of like-minded mini-globetrotters. What kind of aircraft did Lufthansa use for this route and back? I know there’s a stop in Germany both ways. Also, if a 747-400 was used for the US-Germany portion of this route, is it possible to know whether it had the “Star Alliance” livery or not?

I always fly Lufthansa so I am interested only in this airline. I am planning to fly at the beginning of September. I am returning to Europe so maybe a one way ticket would be the best choice. But they told me one way for Lufthansa from Canada is even more expensive than return. So what options do I have?

I have two huge suitcases for checked baggage, but they are over the weight limit (44lbs per bag is allowed, but both my bags are over that limit). If these bags are within the weight limit, they fly for free as Lufthansa allows 2 free checked bags on Economy.

I’m thinking of taking stuff from these bags and putting them into a third suitcase. I already have a carry-on AND a personal item that are full, so I cannot use them as relief. Thank you.
I’m flying from SFO to Munich.

I’m booked roundtrip on a Lufthansa 747-400, economy class, between JFK and Frankfurt in the fall of this year (2013). I’ve read where Lufthansa has been upgrading all 747’s with personal tv monitors. Is that upgrade now complete? If not, has anyone had a recent experience with a Lufthansa 747-400 JFK-Frankfurt flight? What entertainment system did you find?

    Hello,
Next wednesday I’m flying from Akron/Canton to Chicago with United and from Chicago to Frankfurt and from there to Dresden with Lufthansa. I stayed in the US for a year and when I got here my connection flight was cancelled so the lady from United took my e-ticket and gave me a “ticket” which says “Itenary page, not valid for travel” with the flight information of my flight back on it. Later I changed my flight date for the flight back and received a confirmation e-mail which I lost. When I go on checkmytrip.com I can see the correct date on my booking code. Now my question: Do I need that confirmation e-mail or do I even need anything to Check-In if I know my booking code? Thank you so much.

I booked an international flight on united.com and two of my transit flights are operated by Lufthansa. Will United be able to print all my boarding passes including the Lufthansa operated flights? I already spoke to a Lufthansa agent and she told me that it’s possible that all my boarding passes could be printed at the United check-in, but she was not completely sure. Also, does Lufthansa normally assign seats at gate check-in? Because I was unable to choose my seats for the Lufthansa flights online and Lufthansa told me they would be assigned at the gate..

I didn’t feel Lufthansa was that good but I still want you guys out there to tell me thoroughly and in detail which one is better and why?

I’ll be flying with LH in just a few weeks, I will fly from Lisbon to Munich on an A321 and from Munich to Hong Kong on an A340-600. I have two questions at the moment. First one, some airlines charge a lot for in-flight headphones, does LH does it too? Also, what kind of jack to they use? Could I buy an adapter and then use my own headphones? if so, what kind of adapter? Next question, I will stay for 4 hours at Munich’s airport, I already read about a casino and other entertainment places inside the airport but is there a specific Lufthansa lounge? if so, can I have access with it with an economy ticket? And I guess those were my questions, but if you go any extra tips for flying economy just post them.

    Hi,
I would like to ask if I can change non refundable return flight with Lufthansa.
I booked it with Priceline.com and I already use first way, so I need to change date of me return flight.
They told me to call Lufthansa or US airways so I called Lufthansa who is operated my flight and they said I can not change it at all.

Any ideas what I can do? It is really non-changeable or I still have the chance to change it?
    Thanks for advice.

Also I read somewhere that you may need to bring your credit card with you to the airport to get your tickets, but as I used my credit card to book the tickets how would this work? Please someone help me!!
Thanks guys, im not sure how to reply lol! So your saying I should book the seats now? I went on to that thing you said on the Lufthansa website but when I go to to check in it wont allow me? How do I book the seats from there?

Plus tell me about how comfortable the seats are, as well as how good the food is. Is the cabin noisy, and does it come sound proof headphones, or is that just the business and first class? If I carry a few extra batteries for my laptop will the security think its a bomb? Another thing give me a list of things I can watch on the plane if I just dont like looking up at the tv screen (my neck hurts whenever its bent up for a long time). One more thing, please recommend what to bring.

    Hello,
Next wednesday I’m flying from Akron/Canton to Chicago with United and from Chicago to Frankfurt and from there to Dresden with Lufthansa.

Obviously, it’s a European airline. I’ve never heard of it before and was curious on how the food, flight, and service was. Both my mom and I are taking that airline to London in May.

Hi people I am flying Lufthansa in June going to Hungary I believe, and I’ve never flew with them before, do you mind telling me about their planes? Like what they play for movies, music, etc. Also, if they have a little plug for my laptop or ipod in economy class, hate economy.

I was just wondering if lufthansa offers free wifi connection because I’ll have a long flight and I wanted to know if I could connect with my iPod touch.

    Hello,
Next wednesday I’m flying from Akron/Canton to Chicago with United and from Chicago to Frankfurt and from there to Dresden with Lufthansa.

Obviously, it’s a European airline. I’ve never heard of it before and was curious on how the food, flight, and service was. Both my mom and I are taking that airline to London in May.

(I was opting for British Airways) 🙁

I booked an international flight on united.com and two of my transit flights are operated by Lufthansa. Will United be able to print all my boarding passes including the Lufthansa operated flights? I already spoke to a Lufthansa agent and she told me that it’s possible that all my boarding passes could be printed at the United check-in, but she was not completely sure. Also, does Lufthansa normally assign seats at gate check-in? Because I was unable to choose my seats for the Lufthansa flights online and Lufthansa told me they would be assigned at the gate..

I’ll be flying with LH in just a few weeks, I will fly from Lisbon to Munich on an A321 and from Munich to Hong Kong on an A340-600. I have two questions at the moment. Hi people I am flying Lufthansa in June going to Hungary I believe, and I’ve never flew with them before, do you mind telling me about their planes? Like what they play for movies, music, etc. Also, if they have a little plug for my laptop or ipod in economy class, hate economy.
